Everyone’s at each others throats these days. People burn our flag in the streets, ridicule Australian history, Attack each other over economic issues, racial issues and gender issues. Yet the one thing that could easily bind us together is being conveniently pushed out of our consciousness because of the potential it holds.
And that is the concept of loving your country.
Nationalism put very simply, is the idea that all the peoples of the nation come together as one united group. A united group that works together for the best interests of their country, their families, and everyone’s future generations.
And this is one thing that is under serious threat in Australia, as many people continue to slander and disrespect this idea of national unity.
And as people withdraw into their screens to escape.
Instead, what is presented to us is the idea that the state and its benefits will bind us. That support for green initiatives that send the nation broke yet help the “global economy” will bind us, that a unified hatred of white people and our great Australian history will bind us.
But hate is no way to build a nation.
Instead of uniting people in hatred of an enemy that doesn’t exist, instead we should be uniting over the fact that all of us brave the problems of the world together, such as economic issues, geopolitical issues, personal issues, and so on.
But also, we brave the great Australian continent with all its dangers together too.
With the dangers of snakes, spiders, and crocodiles. With the dangers of heat stroke in the day, and hypothermia in the night.
All of us brave similar conditions and have experienced similar circumstances together.
Not many nations in the world have roads that go on forever into the desert with not a soul in sight. On paper a trip across inland Australia might just seem like one long trip. But to those who have done it, a special and unique understanding and feeling of anxiety once you realize you’re days away from food and water starts to set in.
A unique feeling of isolation, only broken when you approach a small truck stop or town, and are glad to finally interact with other Australians again, and know you didn’t die of heat stroke in the middle of the silent desert.
And its little moments like these that can make you appreciative living in a unified nation, and make you realize the fact that we all do, even if we at times forget it, rely on each other.
We all share unique experiences, even if they’re only subtle, that no one else in the world would fully understand.
There is nothing to be ashamed of, being apart of this great extended family.
And all the people of Australia are a part of our family.
But tearing our uniqueness apart all for international profit or racial infighting, would be an absolute waste of our potential.
We are one large nation. With all the resources in the world. We have everything. What we lack is more people. Not people who only want to be here for government benefits. But children, born and bred on Aussie soil, and those who come here from across the oceans, looking to be apart of our family because of the love they feel for our country.
Race politics, gender politics, historical revisionism, and environmental politics is being weaponized in order to tear this country apart.
So, I hope you join me in supporting this concept of Australian nationalism, supporting our fellow battler, and bringing unification to a country that is being pushed by external forces closer into chaos.
United we stand, divided we fall.
