1984.

1984.

Yesterday I was on my way to my cubicle to pay off my debts when my friend gave me this book, 1984, and asked me to read it.

I’m at home at now, and it’s sitting next to me.

He said it was what our future would look like or something, he explained it to me, but I told him that could never happen.

So instead I scanned my face from different angles and presented my license to log into social media.

I thought out loud about how insane it would be if I was actually being watched in my own home like he told me.

Then everything on my feed suddenly changed to camera and microphone advertisements.

I thought that was annoying so I put the phone down.

Then I went to go for a walk outside but when I looked out the window everyone was wearing masks and policemen were stopping people before telling them where to go.

Must be another lock down again.

So I decided not to go out and turned on the TV instead.

On the TV the Prime minister was talking about how we should stop saying certain words and pay the government more money.

Everyone was clapping.

I started clapping too.

The media presenters then told me I was evil and that I’m responsible for what happened hundreds of years ago so I should give away more of my rights.

Then It was showing scenes of the never ending wars in the world. And all the dead people and crying children.

It almost brought me to tears.

Directly after that, It showed the people I was supposed to hate.

So I yelled at the screen. Enraged at our enemies.

Then it showed lock downs, It looked like it was outside my window.

But that just reminded me that I couldn’t go where I wanted to go, so I turned the TV off.

This really annoyed me.

I was going to start swearing out of frustration, but I remembered I can be arrested for saying the wrong things.

So, having nothing else to do, I looked over at the book again.

I thought maybe I should just read it, see if this future prediction is wrong just like I thought.

So I did.

It didn’t take me long to read, and as I suspected, it was wrong and I was right.

The book was way off, and clearly wasn’t a prediction of the future at all.

Because it was just a prediction of the present.
